Students are Morganton Day School recently tasted locally grown Napa cabbage—and the response wasn’t typical, reports The News Herald.

School officials say they want to expose students to foods they may not have had before, and increase their food nutrition and sourcing knowledge.

“Today was the kickstart to what we want to happen in the future and hoping every month. We want to introduce a new vegetable from a local farmer and connect the food to the face of the farmer where it is grown locally and give the opportunity to try a new vegetable,” Sue Gomes, a parent volunteer at the school told The Herald.
