Chartwells Higher Ed has announced the fourth event in its Joy-Ful series, which was designed to foster community amid the pandemic’s social disruption.
The next event, dubbed ‘Grate-Ful,’ will promote plant-based options and sustainability initiatives at the 300 higher-ed campuses where Chartwells runs dining services. It will take place on Stop Food Waste Day, April 27.
“Giving back to the communities we help serve and create is vital to us, so during Earth Month, we wanted an event that prioritized our planet," Lisa McEuen, CEO of Chartwells Higher Ed, said in a statement. "Celebrating Stop Food Waste Day allows us to incorporate meaningful, waste-free activities for students as well as offer customized, plant-forward menus in all of our dining halls across the country."
Efforts to fight food insecurity are another component of the Grate-Ful event, with students having the option to help pack food bags to donate to local food pantries.
