Feb. 8—The Dining Services team at Alfred State University, in Alfred, N.Y., is competing in the New York Beef Industry Council’s 2012 Best Burger Restaurant competition, according to a university press release.

The burger in competition, which was developed for the campus’s Terrace dining location, is an Asian Twist Mandarin Beef Burger. The burger uses local beef from Allegany County’s Wilson’s Beef Farms and comes with a traditional side of cucumber salad dressed with local honey from Dick’s Bees, also from Allegany County.

“We love using local products, and our new signature burger highlights some of the best beef from right in our own backyard,” Karen Canne, director of Dining Services, said in the release. “Bron [Norasethaporn, catering manager for Auxiliary Campus Enterprises and Services, who developed the recipe] has cooked up a burger that is a perfect blend of East-West cuisine that we’re proud to serve to our customers.”

The contest winner will be selected from online votes placed between Feb. 1 and March 15.
