Longtime Foodservice Packaging Institute leader Lynn Dyer to step down this fall

The Foodservice Packaging Institute (FPI), a defender of foodservice operations’ use of disposable food containers, said it is looking for a new president following the resignation of longtime President Lynn Dyer. 

Dyer is leaving the association of packaging manufacturers and users this fall to become vice president of sustainability for one of its members, Pactiv, the FPI said. 

She has worked for the association for more than 20 years and has been instrumental in fostering and showcasing efforts to complement the industry’s reliance on disposables with a commitment to addressing the environmental impact, according to the association. “Her strategic thinking and deep understanding of the foodservice packaging industry has brought awareness to our industry and advanced the association toward new initiatives, like increased recovery efforts and development of valuable resources for our members,” FPI Chairman John Ulowetz said in a statement. 

The group also noted that membership has quadrupled during Dyer’s leadership.

“While I am sad to leave FPI, I am extremely proud of all that I have accomplished and the position in which I am leaving the association,” Dyer said in the statement.

The announcement of her departure comes as a number of cities and states are striving to curb the use of certain types of foodservice packaging, particularly styrene containers, which are now banned in New York City, Seattle and Maine.
