It may not be quite a return to the WWII era stereotype of soldiers pulling KP duty by peeling hundreds of potatoes by hand, but it's not that far off either. With sequestration cuts pinching budgets, the U.S. Army is planning to assign thousands of soldiers to foodservice and other support duties heretofore performed by outside contractors, according to the Military Times. A memo signed by Army Secretary John McHugh and obtained by Army Times says a plan to put soldiers in base operations for up to 18 months has been approved. The initiative could involve as many as 28,000 individuals whose duties would include manning dining facilities at permanent stateside posts and overseas training installations.
