We offer field trips for students to visit our kitchen. We have them try on hairnets (great picture opportunity) and share how many meals we serve and how we cook the meals. They love going through and seeing all the big equipment. Their favorite part is going inside the fridge and freezers. We go back and have a snack afterwards.

This is my chance to showcase any new items or new fruits and vegetables that we are offering in the school, such as a kale salad or black bean brownie. I use a senses activity to get them to try the new foods: We all kiss and lick the kale together. I tell the kids, if you are brave enough, you get to eat it, and many of them do!
