It's hard to believe, but the little golden potato nuggets millions of Americans grew up on are celebrating a golden anniversary—Ore-Ida Tater Tots are 50 years old!

The lightly seasoned spuds hit grocery store shelves in 1954 and have enjoyed lasting appeal as a side dish, snack food, and ingredient favorite. To celebrate the big 5-O, Heinz is introducing Extra Crispy Tater Tots—"the crispiest, crunchiest Tater Tots ever," says the company. These join the other Tot varieties including Crispers,Crispy Crowns,Onion Tater Tots and Mini Tater Tots.
