Nancy Wall Hopkins, Better Homes and Gardens deputy editor, food and entertaining, finds lots to appreciate in The Parent Trap, a 1998 remake of the 1960s film. Food shows up frequently in the movie, she says, and, " I love the way food brings those twins together."
In the movie, Twins Hallie and Annie (played by Lindsay Lohan) are separated shortly after birth when their parents (played by Dennis Quaid and Natasha Richardson) divorce and live in different cities. Years later, the twins meet at summer camp by chance, and hatch a campaign to reunite their parents.
In fact, the twins' eating habits help draw them together. They discover they're both allergic to strawberries and that they have some snacking preferences in common. And speaking of snacks, Nancy Wall Hopkins shares inspired ideas for trail mix ("We developedit in the whole camp spirit; you could almost enjoy it at Camp Walden. . ." she says), sandwiches and other seasonal picnic fare.
