The Association of Private Correctional and Treatment Organizations (APCTO), an industry trade association representing the interests of private correctional and treatment providers and related services has been formed. Founding members including Aramark Correctional Services Inc, Corrections Corporation of America and Wackenhut Corrections Corporation.

Susan T. Borra, R.D., has been named the 2001-2002 president of the American Dietetic Association. She is senior vice president and director of nutrition at the International Food Information Council in Washington, D.C.

Canteen Vending Services has added Valley Vending Service, Inc. of Cozad, NE to its group. Valley Vending employs 250 and operates 15 dining centers and more than 550 vending accounts in Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa and Texas.

Dining services at Duke University will now be operated by Aramark Corporation. The company will install its Pan Geos program along with other signature concepts. David Randolph will oversee the operation.

Compass Group North American Division has been awared a $30 million national contract by United Technologies for foodservice, catering, vending and c-stores. Compass will provide services at UTC’s 41 cafeterias in the U.S. and Mexico.

Nicholas Biello has been named president of Sportservice Corporation, a subsidiary of Delaware North Companies. Sportservice veteran Jim Houser has been named Chief Operating Officer. Biello joined the company last August, after 15 years with Ogden Entertainment. Houser has been the with Buffalo, NY-based company for more than 20 years.

The late Michael Hurst, president of 15th Street Fisheries in Ft. Lauderdale, was named IFMA’s 2001 Foodservice Operator of the Year and Gold Plate award. Hurst passed away earlier this year from cancer.

Morrison Healthcare Food Services, a division of Morrison Management Specialists, recently announced a supplier participation agreement with University HealthSystem Consortium (UHC), a member-driven alliance of 84 of the nation’s leading academic health centers. UHC helps members pool resources, create economies of scale, improve clinical and operating efficiencies, and influence the direction and delivery of healthcare.

Robert H. Forney, former Chicago Stock Exchange president and CEO, has been named president and CEO of America’s Second Harvest, the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization.

William Hamman, president of Sodexho Marriott Services, will retire next year following a career spanning more than 40 years. Rick Brockland, a 28-year company veteran who currently serves as the education division’s senior vice president for the upper Midwest, Pacific Northwest and Hawaii regions, will replace Hamman.
