Many Mediterranean flavors are now mainstream, and diners are ready to branch out from Greek, Turkish, Spanish and coastal Italian to try something more exotic, like Lebanese. At Balade, which means “fresh” in Lebanese, the menu offers authentic fare in familiar formats, such as pizza and wraps. Chicken Tawook is marinated grilled chicken served as a “sandweechet” or sandwich with french fries or rice.

Ingredients

4 cloves garlic, crushed
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup heavy cream
1 tbsp. lemon juice
1 tbsp. oregano
1/2 tsp. white pepper
1/2 tsp. cayenne pepper
2 lb. skinless, boneless chicken breast halves
4 large pita breads or flatbreads

Steps

  1. Combine garlic, mayonnaise, heavy cream, lemon juice, oregano, pepper and cayenne in large bowl. Add chicken; mix well and refrigerate for about 8 hr.

  2. Grill chicken until thoroughly cooked. Dice and roll in pita breads.
