Cheese and Apple Sliders with Caramelized Onions & Whiskey Honey Cream Sauce

These sliders elevate comfort food with a sweet, tart twist. Green apple and onions add crunch, while cheese and a smooth cream sauce round out the flavors.

Ingredients

1 Granny Smith apple
14 King's Hawaiian® original slider buns
1 1/2 oz. cheddar cheese
1 1/2 oz. Monterey jack cheese

Whiskey honey cream sauce
2 c. heavy cream
3 oz. whiskey
3 tbsp. honey, buckwheat pollen
1/2 tsp. cardamom, ground
1/2 tsp. cinnamon, ground

Caramelized red onions
1 red onion, julienned
1/2 tbsp. extra-virgin olive oil
1/8 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. black pepper
 

Steps

1. Combine all cream sauce ingredients in a small-medium pot.
2. Reduce until desired thickness, approx. 10 minutes.
3. In medium pan over medium heat, caramelize onions until tender. Check seasoning.
4. Core Granny Smith apples and cut into 1/4" to 1/2" slices, donut-style.
5. Grill until tender.
6. Toast slider buns on buttered flattop, top with cheddar and Monterey jack cheese blend on one side. Melt cheese.
7. Top with apple, caramelized onions and sauce.
