Dining services at Western Kentucky University is attempting to boost sales of meal plans by offering select students a free meal at its Downing Student Union location, reports the WKU Herald. The initiative is being marketed by WKU dining services provider Aramark to commuter students living within certain areas and students who had a meal plan last year but did not purchase one this year. The free meal can only be used within the first two weeks of school and are intended to showcase the redesigned menu of Aramark's Fresh Food Company operation.

The program is designed to make up for a decrease in meal plans sales from last year resulting from a decline in enrollment. Students who take advantage of the offer receive a solicitation to sign up for a meal plan.
