On Wednesday evening, July 11, Russ Meyer, Foodservice Director at the University of Nevada-Reno, was recognized with the 2012 Theodore Minah Distinguished Service award by the National Association of College and University Food Services (NACUFS). Named after one of the association's first presidents, the Minah award recognizes a longstanding NACUFS member whose contributions have led to the strengthening of the association's culture and furthering of its goals. In his acceptance remarks, Meyer acknowledged the support he has received from numerous mentors within and associated with the organization, from Bill Main, Len Hodgsen and Paul Harvey to Ellyn Elson and Cam Schauf, as well as the personal support he has received from his family. He advised up and coming members of the NAUFS organization to seek the advice of many current members who could provide them with the kind of perspective and advice he himself had received from past leaders.
"You will find no association more passionate about its business and dedicated to the professional and personal development of its members than NACUFS," Meyer said. "NACUFS and its members are a resource you can rely on to help you progress in your careers and succeed in meeting your professional and personal goals."
