MIT's Rich Berlin Tabbed to Head Dining at Univ. of the South

Richard Berlin has been named director of dining services at Sewanee: The University of the South, with responsibility for converting the longtime contracted foodservice department to self-operation. He will be responsible for creating a program that embraces the school's objectives in local and sustainable food.

Sewanee Dining provides a board program for 1,500 resident students that offers continuous dining with unlimited entry in a modern 800-seat central facility, as well as an extensive catering program and two retail operations—a pub and a deli.

"Rich brings a tremendous amount of experience, skill and enthusiasm to this unique opportunity," says Associate Vice President for Administration Frank Gladu. "His excitement about orchestrating this start-up program is compelling as he realizes the potential for the Sewanee Dining program to make a difference for the students, facility, staff and guests of this great institution."

Berlin has more than 25 years of experience in college dining, holding positions at Cornell, Duke and Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he was most recently director of MIT Campus Dining. In that role, he oversaw all aspects of residential and retail dining, catering, facility dining and a pub as well as c-store, food truck and vending operations.
