Food service workers in the United States Senate cafeteria have voted not to join a union
July 25, 2012
Food service workers in the U.S. Senate cafeteria have voted not to join a union, reports Roll Call. The 116 eligible employees submitted secret ballots in the vote that took place July 24 on whether or not to join the Workers United Mid-Atlantic Regional Joint Board, a union affiliated with the Service Employees International Union (SEIU). The House foodservice staff has been unionized since the operation was privatized in 1986. Senate dining operations were outsourced in 2008. Both are managed by Restaurant Associates.
