MUSKOGEE, Okla. — Muskogee County sheriff’s deputies arrested a former Muskogee High School student Thursday on suspicion of using counterfeit money when he tried to pay for a school lunch.

Derek James Jacobs, 18, was arrested Thursday afternoon. He faces a felony charge of uttering a forged instrument.

Jacobs was a student at Muskogee High School when he tried to use three fake bills Jan. 14, the district’s spokeswoman Wendy Burton said.

A cafeteria employee ran a counterfeit-detecting marker over the bill. The marker indicated the bills were fake, Burton said.
