LAKE CHARLES, La. — A spokesperson for the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office Thursday said a Sulphur, LA area cafeteria worker has been arrested and charged with cruelty to a juvenile after she struck a 6-year-old.

On Wednesday, deputies reviewed surveillance video they say shows Kristy Lynn Miller, 32, of Sulphur, striking a 6-year-old male family member.  They say footage from the school cafeteria shows Miller striking the child multiple times in a violent manner.  The footage also shows Miller walk away and then return and continue to strike the boy.  The boy had visible red marks on his face and arms.

Miller was taken to the Sheriff's Office for questioning and confirmed to detectives that she hit the child several times.  She told detectives she hit the boy because he had spilled a liquid on the floor and had broken a pencil.
