Cafeteria managers at Katy Independent School District in Katy, Texas competed in a cooking competition as part of their training for the new school year, Katy Magazine reports

The managers split up into teams and were given five mystery ingredients that had to be used to make a vegetarian meal and a non-vegetarian meal.

The district’s foodservice director said that the competition allowed the managers to collaborate with one another and come up with new menu ideas that could be served to students in the future.

As students return to classrooms this fall, school nutrition operators throughout the country are working to overcome supply chain challenges to create menus that will excite students and expose them to different flavors and cuisines
