These cannoli tartines make an easy but elegant addition to the breakfast menu and can double as snacks. All they require is a quick blending of mascarpone or ricotta cheese with five other ingredients to make a spread that resembles cannoli filling, plus a baguette of French or sourdough bread. To save even more time, package the cheese spread in a small container with a few bread slices and have customers make their own tartines.

Ingredients

¾ cup mascarpone, ricotta or cream cheese, softened

2½ tbsp. honey, plus additional for drizzling

1 tbsp. grated orange zest

1/8 tsp. ground cinnamon

1/3 cup toasted salted pistachios, chopped, (reserve 2 tbsp.)

1/3 cup mini dark chocolate chips (reserve 2 tbsp.)

8 slices sourdough baguette (1/2-in. thick), lightly toasted

Steps

  1. In small bowl, combine mascarpone cheese, honey, orange zest and cinnamon until well blended. Fold in all but the reserved portion of pistachios and mini chocolate chips.

  2. Spread a generous 2 tablespoons mascarpone cheese mixture onto each baguette slice; sprinkle reserved pistachios and chocolate chips evenly across tartines. Drizzle with additional honey and serve immediately.
