In general, dark roasts and espresso drinks are trending, but younger consumers prefer sweeter, dessert-like flavors. According to Technomic, 43% of 18- to 34-year-olds find mocha appealing, and 49% favor caramel-flavored coffee. Many in this demographic also gravitate to coffee drinks that can double as desserts, with garnishes of chocolate syrup, whipped cream and marshmallows. And sweet seasonal flavors, including pumpkin spice, maple and dulce de leche are popular with this group.
