Houston Mayor Bill White has successfully pushed through a controversial contract extension with the concessionnaire in Bush Intercontinental Airport’s Terminal C, reports the Houston Chronicle. The contract with JDDA Concession Management was to expire next June but has been extended for eight years, into 2016. The measure stirred controversy because of the no-bid nature of the extension and the fact that JDDA owner Jason Yoo reportedly contributed more than $11,000 to White’s re-election campaign in the past four years, and at least $30,000 to the campaigns of eight council members. The Terminal C food court management contract has not been competitively bid since JDDA took over in 1990. The extension deal requires JDDA to spend $10.5 million to renovate the food courts in Terminal C and to partner with another food service company, Creative Host Services, which now has a 49 percent stake in JDDA.
