Detroit Schools Ends Aramark Contract

Detroit Public Schools will terminate its foodservice contract with Aramark Corp. on June 30 and consider returning to self-operation in the fall. The district’s board of education voted unanimously for the changes, as welll as for hiring an executive director of foodservice. Detroit Schools must still iron out how it will manage foodservice for the summer school session, and options include outside management, perhaps even by Aramark. The company took over management of the $44 million foodservice operation in 2001.
