Compass Group will take over temporary management of the Cherry Hospital psychiatric facility in Goldsboro, NC, in the wake of the resignation of its director, Dr. Jack St. Clair, reports the Goldsboro News Argus. The facility had come under fire after the revelation of several incidents of patient abuse and neglect.

A unit of the state’s Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities and Substance Abuse Services, Cherry Hospital was expelled from the federal Medicare and Medicaid programs following the revelations. Compass, which had been hired in October to provide independent management services in preparation for reapplication to the federal programs, will handle day-to-day management until a replacement for St. Clair is found.
