July 2, 2010
July 2—The American Association for Affirmative Action, an organization of equal opportunity, diversity and affirmative action professionals, honored two Compass Group employees, Cheryl Queen and Rick Stone, with its Cesar Estrada Chavez Award. The winners were recognized at the AAAA’s Access, Equity and Diversity Summit and Annual Meeting in Raleigh, N.C., last week.
Cheryl Queen is vice president of corporate communications for Compass Group North America, and Rick Stone is vice president of corporate social responsibility and communication for Foodbuy. The Cesar Estrada Chavez award is presented to individuals who have shown support of workers’ rights and humanitarian issues. Under Queen and Stone’s leadership, Compass Group partnered with the Coalition of Immokalee Workers, a workers’ rights organization, to improve the working conditions and wages of Latino, Mayan Indian and Haitian immigrants working as tomato harvesters in low-wage jobs in the Immokalee region of Florida.
