Centerplate Ends San Jose CC Relationship

Centerplate is ending its 20 year relationship with the San Jose Convention and Cultural Facilities when its contract to operate food and beverage services expires on June 30, 2009. The company had operated catering and related services at the facilities, including the San Jose McEnery Convention Center, since 1989.

Centerplate cites “dramatic changes to the terms of the renewal, including a significant reduction in the future value of the contract” as the reason for the move. The company had been in renewal talks with Team San Jose, the non-profit corporation created in 2004 to manage the facilities.

"We believe in working as partners with our clients and supporting their success," says Centerplate President/CEO Desmond Hague. "We have been very happy to be contributing members of the San Jose community. Unfortunately, we simply cannot provide the level of service the community expects—and deserves—under the proposed terms. We hope the future will present other opportunities to partner with Team San Jose and the local community."
