Residents at Ohio Living Breckenridge Village in Willoughby, Ohio, will be able to enjoy alcoholic beverages and a full pub menu when the senior-living community’s newest dining concept opens later this fall.

The Breckenridge Bistro and Pub will act as the community’s main hub for takeout and delivery, and also aims to be a future meeting spot for residents and their guests, as it’s in a centralized spot on campus, says Director of Culinary and Nutrition Services Ryan Wagner.

The concept has been a couple years in the making and was originally slated to open in May. That was delayed due to COVID-19, however, and the bistro will not be serving dine-in customers in the immediate future.

“We're kind of in a holding pattern, really, until we can bring larger groups of people together and our residents feel comfortable in their dining space,” says Wagner.

Pub favorites with a healthy twist

Like the other dining rooms on campus, the bistro will have its own unique offerings. “It will be a pub-type menu with a kind of healthy feel to it,” Wagner says. “We've got burgers and a chicken sandwich, but we're also doing some nice quinoa bowls and noodle bowls.”

Alcoholic drinks will also be available to purchase and can be delivered to residents’ rooms. In addition to beverages prepared to order, the team has also been looking into pre-mixed canned cocktails.

“For convenience, we’re looking at kind of pairing [the canned cocktails] up where you get the pub burger, for example, and you get a bourbon smash in a can,” says Wagner.

Future plans

For now, the team is focusing on getting the bistro’s grab-and-go and delivery service up and running by early November. Residents will be able to place orders via phone or online and select pickup or delivery.

In anticipation of the holiday season, staff are also planning to serve grab-and-go holiday meals for residents.

“We’re shooting for Thanksgiving,” Wagner says. “I think it would be about $12 a person, and we’ll do turkey and stuffing, mashed potatoes, candied yams and choice of a pie.”
