Cooking Demo

Over the holidays, chef Andrew Coates presented a video cooking demonstration for Lexington Square Lombard and Elmhurst senior-living communities, in partnership with HHS Hospitality Services. The event was live-streamed to residents’ apartments, and participants were given the opportunity to dine on the seasonal three-course meal being demoed as they watched.

The menu featured butternut squash soup with herb oil, roasted rack of lamb, glazed carrots and Brussels sprouts, and a red-wine poached pear for dessert. Due to COVID restrictions, the meal was delivered to individuals’ residences before the event aired.

Residents were encouraged to grab a glass of wine or beverage of choice and watch the chef, who has appeared on televised cooking shows, prepare their meal. Both the dinner and the presentation earned rave reviews, said Dan Harrington, vice president of senior living for Lexington Health Network. “We try hard to present our residents with special treats and extra attention whenever we’re able. This exciting event not only engaged them but also fed them.”

The positive response encouraged Lexington Square to replicate the event quarterly and launch it as a marketing initiative, said a spokesperson.

Lexington Square Lombard and Elmhurst senior-living communities are located in Chicago’s western suburbs. Both offer independent and assisted living options, and the Lombard location also provides memory care.
