UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh has opened a new edible garden on its campus.

The garden includes a “living wall” where different herbs, berries and produce will be grown. Produce from the garden will be used in the hospital kitchen, and patients will be able to help harvest the produce.

The garden is located on a hospital terrace and was funded through a $78,375 donation from Green Mountain Energy Company, an electric company that focuses on renewable energy.

UPMC Children’s is one of many hospitals in the country using on-site gardens to provide nutrition education and healthy food access to patients.
