New Menu Strictures Not Kosher With Some Brandeis Students
Elimination of products from dining halls under a new management contract has generated controversy.

The removal of pork and shellfish from dining hall menus this year has generated controversy at Brandeis University, reports the school's The Justice campus paper. Though Brandeis has had a "longstanding policy' against serving the non-kosher products as part of its "heritage as a Jewish-sponsored institution," according to a spokesperson quoted in the article, students claim they were readily available as late as last school year when the dining program was managed by Aramark. A new contract with Sodexo that began this fall stipulates that pork and shellfish not be served in the dining halls, though they remain available in branded retail outlets such as Quiznos and Dunkin' Donuts as well as Sodexo's food trucks.
