Creative special event themes educate, advocate and entertain

A special themed event can serve as a monotony breaker, a way to celebrate a holiday or as a fun way to promote a worthwhile cause. All onsite segments hold themed events, from Las Vegas nights and Halloween parties to Thanksgiving dinners and Major League opening day galas, though they tend to be most prevalent in colleges where the monotony of the school year, the need to let off steam from academic pressures, widespread familiarity with pop culture trends and youthful energy combine to produce some rather creative events.

Traditionally, themed events consisted mostly of a limited set of tried-and-true concepts based on dream getaway locations (the Caribbean, the South Seas, Las Vegas, Paris) that emphasized the taking-a-break-from-it-all purpose of the event or riffed off a contiguous holiday or time of year (Fourth of July, Valentine’s Day, Halloween, harvest festival, etc.).

Today, there is a much larger palette to draw from given the ubiquity of pop culture knowledge driven by social media and round-the-clock traditional media that can lift even the most arcane interests into the general limelight.
