The breakfast bowl you haven’t heard of
A recent article by Sonia Chopra on eater.com introduces upma, “Southern India’s quick and comforting breakfast bowl.” Upma is somewhat of an outlier of typical Indian cuisine, as it’s “flavorful but not overly spicy; it’s dry, not curried; and it’s a standalone dish rather than part of a composite meal.” It’s a porridge made with roasted semolina, rice, grains or even pieces of bread. Peanuts and veggies are added, and it’s garnished with grated coconut, lime and cilantro. Sounds like it’s worth checking out…

Don’t take it out on the poor donut!
Los Angeles artist Mar Cuervo, aka “Destroyer,” has gained an Internet following for her performance art, which consists of images of her hands crushing and squishing items like flan, ice cream sandwiches, frosted cookies, Easter candy and more in a fit of anger. Her anger is directed at “society’s fear of the power of anger and against its obsession with perfection…” Fans say it’s mesmerizing.

Are Brits not really as into tea as everyone thinks?
It could be just a stereotype that they love their tea in jolly old England. Recent data shows that tea consumption has “fallen steadily over the course of two generations.” A few factors are at play, according to analysts interviewed by The Atlantic, including the rise of coffee culture, and the fact that tea is associated with sugary little cookies and snacks, something people in modern Britain are trying to get away from.
