The Urban School Food Alliance is this week celebrating its fourth annual Fresh Attitude Week.

The event aims to draw attention to fresh produce in school meals. Throughout the week, each district in the Alliance will highlight fruits and vegetables through chef demonstrations, visits from local farmers and other means.

The Alliance says it has increased student consumption of fresh produce during Fresh Attitude Week each year. Starting in 2015, the 11 member districts served 5.9 million servings of fresh produce, an amount that increased to 11.5 million servings in 2017.

Fresh Attitude Week was created by the French Department of Agriculture in partnership with the French Inter-Branch Association of Fresh Fruits and Vegetables and is now celebrated throughout France, Italy and the Urban School Food Alliance.

The cities that are part of the Alliance are: New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami-Dade, Dallas, Orange County (Orlando, Fla.), Broward County (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), Clark County (Las Vegas), Philadelphia, Baltimore and Boston.
