SNA Sets Legislative Goals

The School Nutrition Association (SNA) has set four legislative priorities for the upcoming Congressional session, in which possible changes to the National School Lunch Act will be considered in conjunction with the annual Farm Bill.

For 2007, SNA sets the following legislative priorities through its annual Legislative Issue Paper:
• a uniform national standard to govern the sale of all foods sold or made available on the school campus during the school day (SNA also endorses the Child Nutrition Promotion & School Lunch Protection Act, which expands the "time and place" rule governing sales of "competitive" foods and drinks);
• funding of the Reduced Price School Meal Pilot with $23 million over three years;
• the provision of 10 cents in USDA commodities for each school breakfast served;
• expansion of the Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Program.

SNA took the messages of this year's Legislative Issue Paper to Congress as part of its 35th annual Legislative Action Conference (LAC) in early March.
