Scottsdale (AZ) USD is rolling out three brand new high school cafeterias this fall as part of a major district-wide secondary school facilities upgrade following the passage of a $217 million bond issue by voters in 2004, reports the East Valley Tribune (in addition, a middle school cafeteria received a similar upgrade thanks to a $100,000 grant from the United Dairy Council). The new eateries at Arcadia, Coronado and Desert Mountain high schools will feature fresh salads, healthy desserts and self-serve coolers, replacing the previous straight-line servery models. Nutrition Services Director Sue Bettenhausen told the Tribune she expects an overall cafeteria revenue increase of 20 percent this year as a result of the upgrades. Her department projects an increase from $1.21 million to $1.46 million in revenue from the three schools with the new cafeterias this year. Remodeled eateries at the district’s two other high schools are expected to debut in next fall.
