Keller Independent School District in Keller, Texas, is turning to student feedback and creative marketing to get kids eating healthier, CBS DFW reports.
The district’s food provider, Sodexo, has solicited feedback throughout the district on what to serve in the cafeteria. From those responses, it added more healthy and made-in-house options, including the types of produce requested by students.
“We did get feedback from some of our students, and they wanted a griddled burger, so we have all these cooked fresh on the griddle,” Ron Gomez, director of business development for Sodexo, told CBS DFW.
Sodexo has also turned to fun visuals to draw student interest. The cafeteria in Keller ISD’s Caprock Elementary School has been named The Clubhouse and includes vibrant signage. Produce in The Clubhouse is arranged by color pairings, allowing for a fun food presentation.
So far, the changes have been well received by students. One parent of a Keller ISD student noted that his third-grade son said the new burger tasted better than one from McDonald’s.
