Roanoke (Va.) City Schools has been packing meals for students who have been out of school for almost a week due to weather conditions, reports local news station WDBJ. District officials were concerned about the nutrition situation of students in a district where the free/reduced percentage at some sites is as high as 90 percent. Nutrition services staff and teacher volunteers got together at several school kitchens to assemble meal packets to be given to children at several designated schools to ensure they get nutritious meals while away from school meals for an extended period.
