New London Public Schools in New London, Conn., hosted its first $1.25 Chef Throwdown competition, The Day reports.

Twelve commercial chefs from around the country competed to create dishes that meet USDA school nutrition regulations and fit a $1.25 budget. A team of students and adults judged the dishes. The winning dish, a fish sandwich created by three chefs from New York City collective Ghetto Gastro, will be put on the district’s lunch menu.

The event was open to the public, and the money raised from the $50 fee per dish went back to the district’s foodservice program.
