Concrete School District in Concrete, Wash., is hosting free monthly dinners at its high school to engage the surrounding community, GoSkagit reports.
The meals are held on nights when an event happens at the school, such as a school concert, and are sponsored by school and community organizations such as the district’s farm-to-school program and the town council.
The monthly dinners began last year and were hosted by elementary school teachers, who used the meals to get to know their students’ families. After the meals became too much for the teachers to handle on their own, the district’s foodservice director took over the program this year and incorporated the local organizations.
