School district ditches fryers

It completed an equipment switch while students were out for spring break.

Harrison County School District in Harrison County, Miss., has gotten rid of its deep fryers in a move to make its school meals healthier, WLOX reports.

During the district’s spring break, the fryers were replaced with combi ovens that were purchased using grant funds. School officials say this will enable dishes to be made with better texture as well as fewer calories and less fat.
