Orleans Parish School Board grants $15 minimum wage for cafeteria staff

The wage increase will impact 66 workers at 14 schools.

Cafeteria staff at Orleans Parish School Board in New Orleans will receive a raise for the 2019 fiscal school year, The Times-Picayune reports.

The school board voted last week to raise the hourly minimum wage to $15. The wage increase will impact 66 workers at 14 schools.

The school board originally voted on a 5% base salary increase in June, which would have raised cafeteria staff”s wages to around $11 per hour. However, a parent advocacy group requested that wages be further raised to $15, resulting in last week’s vote.
