The Skiatook School Board held a special meeting August 18 to hear presentations from two cafeteria management companies as well as conduct additional business.

Two cafeteria management companies presented their proposals at the meeting, OPAA! And Sodexo. Both companies gave detailed presentations. The school board voted unanimously to hire Sodexo as the cafeteria management company for Skiatook Public Schools.

Sodexo partners with school systems to bring nutritious and good tasting meals to children buying breakfast or lunch at school. The goal of a cafeteria management company is to make sure that all food meets nutritional requirement, as well as increase student participation in meal programs. Sodexo wants to create an environment that promotes student learning and success in life. They want services that connect values of wellness, sustainability, and social responsibility.

Sodexo meals meet the standards of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act while being fun and delicious. Students will have a dynamic cafeteria with multiple choices. Having choices is intended to encourage students to try new foods. Food choices are more simple at elementary levels and become more sophisticated at the high school level. An elementary student may be offered cheese or pepperoni pizza while a high school student may be offered a Hawaiian pizza as a lunch option. All cafeteria menus will offer a salad bar and a fruit bar daily.
