President Obama's proposed 2015 fiscal year budget includes $35 million in school equipment grants for foodservice departments to use in updating production facilities, reports Education Week. The USDA recently awarded $11 million in grants for school cafeteria equipment and this budget proposal would build on that. Many K-12 foodservice directors say equipment upgrades have become more necessary recently in wake of new school nutrition standards.

The President's proposed budget must still be passed by Congress, which can change or modify any parts of it.
