Orange County (FL) Public Schools has announced that nine more of its sites qualified for USDA’s Provision 2 breakfast program, which provides all students at the qualifying school with breakfast at no charge. To qualify for Provision 2, a school must have at least 70 percent of its students eligible for free or reduced price meals. Currently 104 Orange County schools offer breakfast to students at no charge.
To ensure that as many students as possible are reached with breakfast, OCPS Food & Nutrition Services (FNS) staff delivers meals in common areas, not just the cafeteria, with breakfast carts at bus and parent drop-off points, at entry points to the school and in the courtyard so students are reminded to eat breakfast. The FNS program also works with the Transportation Department to ensure students arrive in time for breakfast.
