New Regs a Success for Tiny School District

Not all school meal programs struggled with the new federal regulations implemented last year. The tiny Osakis (MN) school district saw a jump of more than 10,000 student meals served over the past year, an increase of around 17%, reports the Osakis Review. That was all cash sales, too, as free and reduced price meals were both down from the previous year. The result was a program surplus of more than $21,000 despite an all-time high disbursement in food costs due to federal mandates regarding the serving of fresh produce.
