New Haven Schools on Track to Close $3.5M Foodservice Deficit

New Haven (CT) Public Schools is on track to balance its foodservice budget after starting the year with a $3.5 million deficit, reports the Yale Daily News. At least that is what COO Will Clark announced at a recent school board meeting. New Haven operates 46 cafeterias serving more than 21,000 meals a day to an enrollment in which 70 percent of students qualify for free or reduced price meals. Last year, high costs and reduced revenues in the foodservice operation accounted for about half of the city’s education budget deficit.
