N.Y. schools receive incentives to buy local

The state is offering an increased meal reimbursement rate for schools that purchase more local products.

School districts in New York who use at least 30% of their meal budget on purchasing local ingredients this school year will receive increased funding from the state for the next school year, The Daily Gazette reports.

The state is offering an enhanced meal reimbursement rate that will increase funding from 6 cents per meal to 25 cents per meal.

The state also recently announced that it will provide $1.5 million in grants to districts to further the growth of farm-to-school programs across the state.
