N.J. expands funding for school breakfast and summer meals

New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy has signed two bills into law that will expand state funding for Breakfast after the Bell and summer nutrition programs.

Senate Bill No. 3944 will provide school districts that participate in Breakfast after the Bell with a 10 cents per meal reimbursement in addition to federal reimbursements they already receive for the program. This will go into effect at the start of the 2022-23 school year, and the state expects to spend $4.5 million on these reimbursements.

Assembly Bill No. 5882 will provide districts participating in federal summer meal programs with a supplemental 10 cent per meal reimbursement, starting in June 2022.
