A number of schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District will pilot a vegan meal program beginning in the fall, KPCC radio reports.
School Board President Steve Zimmer says his proposal for the pilot originated from demand for more plant-based options at lunch. Zimmer says that he will meet with the LAUSD School Board to develop the program, which will take place at an undisclosed number of schools, noting that the vegan meals will not cost students more.
If the program is a success, it will be implemented at other schools in the district.
