In an effort to reduce food waste, as well as fight student hunger, Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. implemented "No Thank You" tables in its school cafeterias, reports The Republic.

Through the program, students place uneaten lunch items on the tables, giving their peers a chance to take leftovers before they are given to local pantries or meal programs. The district says it has saved nearly 2,000 pounds of food since the tables debuted last fall.

According to officials, juice, milk, cereal, yogurt, and various fruits and vegetables are the items most commonly discarded.
