High school invites local pizzeria to manage nutrition program

A high school in Staten Island is letting a local pizzeria chain take over its foodservice operations this fall. 

Denino’s Pizzeria and Tavern will offer daily breakfast and lunch to students and faculty at Monsignor Farrell High School. Along with scratch-made pizza, its menu will include fresh salads, fruit and rotating specials. 

The pizzeria began as a tavern in 1937 on Staten Island and started serving pizza in 1951. It now has additional locations in New York and New Jersey, and recently opened its first franchise location in California. One of Denino’s current co-owners is an alum of the school. 

Construction is underway to install a pizza oven in the school’s cafeteria, and Denino’s plans to open in time for the first day of class next month.
